In terms of power distance, I am in the middle — I respect authority but believe everyone should express their opinion. I prefer structure and clear expectations, which places me higher in uncertainty avoidance. Finally, I relate more to femininity, as I value empathy, cooperation, and balance over competition.

Body:

Looking at Croatia’s Hofstede dimensions, I notice that the culture is moderately collectivist, has relatively high uncertainty avoidance, and shows medium power distance and masculinity. Personally, I feel more individualistic and comfortable with taking calculated risks than the average Croatian, and I prefer lower power distance, collaborating more as equals. In terms of achievement orientation, I align fairly well with the culture. Overall, I feel integrated in my culture but also recognize that I lean toward more independence and flexibility than the national averages.

I also noticed it could be difficult when others expected clear hierarchies or formal authority, while I’m used to collaborating as equals. Adapting to these differences took effort, but it helped me learn to communicate and compromise more effectively.

I also met students from countries with high power distance, who were very formal with professors and hesitant to speak up, which felt different from my approach.
