| A popular gamification tool in education is Kahoot. It´s an interactive quiz platform that engages students through fun, competitive games. Teachers create quizzes that students answer in real-time, earning points for speed and accuracy. Some of the benefits are engagement and immediate feedback. The risks are excessive competition and speed focus (priorize speed over understanding).

| I first encountered Kahoot during my master’s studies, thanks to one of my professors who introduced it to our class. It can be used in various settings (classroom, remote learning, or self-learning), accommodating different learning styles. The gamified elements can occasionally divert attention from the learning objectives, especially if the focus is primarily on scoring.

| Duolingo is a language-learning app that makes studying fun and easy. It uses levels, points, and daily streaks to encourage users to keep practicing every day. Each lesson feels like a mini-game, where users earn points for correct answers and unlock new levels as they progress. If they study daily, they can build a streak, which helps motivate them to come back each day. Duolingo also offers short, interactive exercises that teach vocabulary, grammar, listening, and speaking skills. This mix of rewards and challenges helps people stay motivated while learning a new language at their own pace. |

| In my case, I use Duolingo which is a free app for learning languages in a fun way and with short lessons. It is a virtual complement to my face-to-face English and French classes. It also allows me to practice different skills such as oral comprenhension, written comprenhension, written expression, etc. Besides, it is as attractive as any other game as it offers points and rewards for correct answers and allows you to advance in level as you learn. A possible risk may be that if access to the microphone is exploited, it can lead to unauthorized surveillance allowing personal conversations and information to be captured, because that app records your voice to check whether your answers are correct. It can also be used for non-consensual marketing.
Despite this, I consider it a very useful app.

| I have been using Duolingo for about six months to learn German, and while it has many benefits, it also has some limitations that learners should consider. Benefits of Duolingo:Flexibility: - It allows you to learn at your own pace, making it easy to fit into a busy schedule.
Free Version for Beginners: - The free version is an excellent starting point for language learners, with gamified elements to keep it engaging.
Personalized Content: - The paid version offers customized materials tailored to your progress, which enhances the learning experience.
Limitations of Duolingo:Limited Grammar Concepts: - While Duolingo is great for vocabulary and basic sentence structure, it doesn’t go in-depth into complex grammar rules, which can be a barrier for advanced learners.
No In-Person Speaking Practice: - Speaking practice is limited to AI interactions, so you miss the real-life conversational experience that’s critical for fluency.
Offline Usage Unavailable (Free Version): - The free version requires a stable internet connection, which can be inconvenient when you're traveling or in areas with poor connectivity.
Despite these limitations, I still recommend Duolingo, especially for beginners. It’s a great way to build a strong foundation and maintain consistent learning habits. However, for more advanced skills, it’s essential to complement it with other resources like grammar books, conversation groups, or language tutors.

Kahoot! is an interactive learning platform that uses gamification to engage students through quizzes, polls, and surveys. Educators or trainers can create customized games called "kahoots" to facilitate learning in a fun and competitive environment. Participants join using a game PIN and answer questions on their devices while scores are displayed in real time. Benefits: - Engagement: Boosts participation and attention during lessons.
- Collaboration: Encourages teamwork when used in group settings.
- Immediate Feedback: Provides instant results to learners and educators, aiding in assessment.
- Adaptability: Can be tailored to any subject or skill level.
Risks: - Over-Competition: May demotivate less competitive learners.
- Screen Dependency: Heavy reliance on devices might reduce other learning interactions.
- Focus Shift: Fun elements might overshadow educational goals if not well-balanced.
Game Concept: Gamify GamificationWe will use Kahoot! to create a game that introduces different gamification tools, highlights their benefits, and outlines potential risks. Here’s how the game will be structured: 1. Game Objective:Players learn about gamification tools by answering multiple-choice and true/false questions. 2. Game Design:- Title: Gamify Your Learning: Tools, Benefits, and Risks
Rounds: - Introduction: Basic concepts of gamification.
- Tool Showcase: Highlight different tools (e.g., Kahoot!, Duolingo, Classcraft).
- Benefits: Questions on how gamification enhances learning.
- Risks: Discuss limitations or challenges of gamification.
3. Examples of Questions:Multiple Choice: “Which tool uses points, badges, and leaderboards to teach languages?” A. Kahoot! B. Duolingo C. Minecraft Education D. Classcraft True/False: "Gamification always ensures higher academic performance." Scenario-Based: "Your classroom has a mix of highly competitive and shy students. Which feature of Kahoot! might help balance engagement?" A. Anonymous participation B. Fast-paced quizzes C. Real-time leaderboards D. None of the above
4. Implementation:Educators can create this game directly on Kahoot! and invite participants to play live during a workshop or asynchronously via shared links.

| Kahoot! is a game-based learning platform where teachers create multiple-choice quizzes that students answer in real time on their devices. It's competitive, interactive, and provides instant feedback. Benefits: - Engages students through competition
- Immediate feedback for learning
- Fun, interactive, and motivating
Risks: - Stress from competition
- Potential distraction
- Unequal participation in large groups
Game Idea: "Gamify Your Learning!" Players answer trivia, match benefits/risks to tools, and design a mini-game using Kahoot! to learn about gamification. The game ends with a reflection challenge on mitigating risks in gamified learning environments.
