I have used Babbel to learn Portuguese.  It is an app to learn languages. You can do different exercises, games, short stories and audios. Babbel has 14 languages to choose from. If you have Babbel for 12 months it is ~6€/month.

In Finland we use this thing called WordDive. It is a learning application much like Duolingo, but it costs money to use it. In my opinion it is more advanced and gives out better results than Duolingo, obviously because you need subscription to use it. It is widely used by people in highschool because if you don´t get the result you wanted from your final exam. You will get your 80 euros back that you invested when you bought the subscription.

Benefits:

- Uses gamification to the fullest.

- 10 different languages to learn from

- You can learn by speaking, writing, and competing against other player with you progress bar.

- Money back guarantee if you don´t ace your exam.

- Easy to use.

I used it and succeeded in my exams. Worth every penny. Can be used in the app or online.

Memrise is a great app for those looking to learn a new language or improve their level on a language that they are already speaking. I use it for practing and improving my Spanish and German. I like this app because it uses real life conversations to help us practice. Some of the features that make it so great for learning or practising a foreign language are: learn new words, grammar, review, explore, speed review, difficult words, listening skills, learn with locals, pronunciation, or offline mode. There are over 15 languages you can choose from and most features are free to use.

I personally use the Duolingo application. is a language-learning app. Frequently, we want a mobile app with all the necessary features to improve our language skills, but most of them cost a lot. Duolingo is free and can be accessed by anyone, it has quick and easy methods for people who are starting from a lower level of knowledge of a language, as in my case.

My main challenge while learning a new skill is that I use to procrastinate a lot. This is why, I will share with you an app that helped me diminish my procrastination habbit. The app is called FOREST. You can download a free version both on App store and Google play. It motivates you and helps you stay focused the right, healthy way. The app is based on gamification, everytime you start working on a task you plant a little tree. If you stay focused for the planned ammount of time, your tree grows and you get to grow your own forest. If you give up, the tree dies. You can also add your friends and work together. There are also in app purchases, and the best part is that the app creators collaborate with "Trees for the Future" organisation and donate the money for planting real trees in real life. So, Forest is an interesting app for managing your time and get all your tasks done in a pleasant way, while also getting the chance to save the Planet.

Honestly, i don't really use apps to learn new skills because I am a very tradition person when it comes to studying. Anyways, the only app that I tried was Duolingo, which I was using to improve my English skills when I was a little girl (around 12 probably). I could not say that I recommend it because I did not find it very useful: I think it is good just for the entry level and not more.

Recently, i have discovered the passion of editing photos, and for that I use Prequel. I really enjoy using this app because, first of all, it's a very intuitive and easy-to-use app, that offers many tools, effects and filters that can be used in a creative way for photo editing. The effects it offers are far from boring, and are in continuous updating, adding more and more effects and filters almost every week. And also, one bonus is that you can use the same effects and filters on videos as well, so it is good to know for when i start learning the skill of video editing as well.

      An application that I use almost daily and that I love is Chordify

     This application is very good for those who want to play the guitar. I installed it when I was a beginner, and thanks to it I made a lot of progress. It gives you the opportunity to search for your favorite song and while the song is playing, the chords and how to play them appear. It also shows you when you have to change the chords between them.

      For those who are passionate about music, it is a helpful application.

At the moment, I don't have any application on my phone from which to learn new skills, but a few years ago I downloaded the EWA application from GooglePlay to improve my English.

The advantages of this application are:
- very friendly graphics;
- English courses that are organized at different study levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced);
-offers the opportunity to learn a basic level useful in different situations (for example: for travel, work, etc.)
-offers the chance to read different books in English from the virtual library, but also to apply the knowledge gained through different games.

Cambridge Dictionary +Plus: you can now learn English vocabulary anytime and anywhere you have an online connection, whether you’re sitting on a train, waiting for a bus or filling the minutes in a café before a friend turns up. What’s more, you can learn in a very personalized way, creating vocabulary lists that are right for you, matching both your level of English and your personal interests. You can create multiple word lists so you can use them to group vocabulary into different topics that interest you, or to create a list of words you need to revise for an exam. Once you’ve created your word list, you can challenge yourself with the quizzes! There are three quiz types: word memory quiz (type the word that matches the definition), flash cards (read the definition and try to remember the word) and audio quizzes (type in the word that you hear). The audio quizzes are a great way of improving your listening skills. The flash cards and word memory quizzes will help you learn the meanings and spellings of the words.

I don't particularly use a mobile app when I want to learn something new but rather I prefer searching on the web. One of the most useful websites for me, when I want to learn something about programming, is w3schools.com. It contains all of the usual programming languages, with tutorials varying from basics to more advanced stuff. It's very easy to use, intuitive, and well-structured, and the most interesting thing about it is that no matter the programming language that you want to learn, they have a built-in compiler for you to test your code even when you don't have the right apps to do it.

I thought a lot about which application I should recommend, but I chose the one based on one of my biggest passions. One of my biggest wishes since I was little was to learn as many foreign languages as possible and one good mobile application  that I have used and highly recommend is “DuoLingo". It helped me a lot with my english and also helped me learn the basisc of spanish and portuguese. Duolingo is not a stand-alone language course, but it's an excellent addition to a language learner's toolbox. It's easy to use, it's fun and it works. You can  learn in a personalized way. Lessons adapt to your individual needs so you can learn faster. It's also good for your brain, Duolingo learners demonstrated improved executive functioning and working memory.

And why do I think it's important to learn a new language?  Besides having more chances of landing a good job or advancing in your career, learning a second language can also give you an insight into other cultures. You will be more prepared and confident to travel the world and explore other people's ways of living. Lack of integration is a real problem for most countries. Also, knowing as many languages as possible will help your brain and your mental state. People who speak more than one language have improved memory, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, enhanced concentration, ability to multitask, and better listening skills
