ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY
Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași (UAIC) is the oldest higher education institution in Romania. There are over 25.000 students and over 700 academic staff, learning, teaching and working here. Alexandru Ioan Cuza University is a member of some of the most important university networks and associations: the Coimbra Group, EUA – European University Association, Utrecht Network, International Association of Universities, University Agency of Francophony and the Network of Francophone Universities (RUFAC).

STUDYING AT UAIC
The structure of the academic education includes three level of studies:
- The bachelor's (first level), 3 years (all faculties). Exceptions, 4 years, for: Faculty of Law, Faculty of Geography and Geology - Geological Engineering, Faculty of Physics - Technological Engineering;
- Master's (second level), 2 years;
- Doctoral (third level), 3 years
Each academic year has two semesters and at the end of each semester you will have an exam session that will last two weeks. The lectures, seminars or laboratories are held weekly or, for some disciplines, once every two weeks. One lecture/seminar/laboratory will be 100 minutes long with 10 minutes break after every 50 minutes of activity. An official academic activity day starts at 8:00 and finishes at 19:50. There are days when students might have only one course and/or seminar in the schedule, and days with over 3 academic activities. The schedule is made public at the beginning of the semester on each faculty's website.
The Romanian grading scale runs from 1 to 10 and the marks have the following meanings:
- 1-4 fail
- 5-6 sufficient
- 7 satisfactory
- 8 good
- 9 very good
- 10 excellent.
There are multiple evaluation methods used by our professors depending on the field of study. Students might be evaluated through one or more of these methods:
- assignments during the entire semester
- presentations (individual or in group)
- tests
- portfolios
- written exams
- oral exams
- online exams.
REGISTRATION AT UAIC (for international students)
At least two months before you leave your home university, you should contact the Erasmus+ Faculty Coordinator for study or placement from Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi in order to inform him/her about your coming here. It is with the Faculty Coordinator that you must discuss the details related to the courses you are going to choose and to your study programme in general. The deadlines for sending the application forms are August 1st for the students coming for the 1st semester/whole academic year, December 1st for the students coming for the 2nd semester.
